What is it to be human if we pass by an old friend’s home and don’t suddenly remember the person we once were there?
What is it to be human if an old song doesn’t take us back to a place we thought we had forgotten?
What is it to be human if the mountains don’t make us feel small, the rivers don’t make us want to stay, and the evening sky doesn’t make us stop for a while?
What is it to be human if we don’t notice the sunlight warming our skin or the breeze brushing past our face?
What is it to be human if a group of old friends can’t sit together and laugh at the cringiest things they have ever done?
What is it to be human if a child smiles at us and we don’t smile back?
What is it to be human if we return home and find the fridge filled with mangoes because our parents know we love them?
What is it to be human if we don’t miss people, places, and versions of ourselves that no longer exist?
What is it to be human if we are too afraid to care too much, love too loudly, laugh too freely, or cry when something hurts?
What is it to be human if, in trying to build a picture-perfect life, we forget that it is the flaws that make it real?
What is it to be human if we keep hiding our excitement, holding back our love, and pretending that nothing touches us?
What is it to be human if, in a world becoming more artificial every day, we choose to become a little less human?
So, while the world learns to feel less, let’s choose to feel more.
